Background Information About the DirectCam Broadcaster

Many members will know that virtually all cam platforms have relied heavily on the video and audio functionality provided by Adobe’s Flash browser plug-in.  This technology provided a simple common interface to developers that allowed them to interact with the microphone and webcam on most PCs and Macs.  As the web has become more secure and more focussed on privacy and security, questions were asked about the access and rights that such plug-ins had over people’s computers.  Accordingly and almost unanimously, it was decided by the major browser vendors, (Microsoft, Google, Mozilla) to end operability for Flash within their respective browsers at the end of 2020.

Of course we had notice of the imminent demise of Flash and during 2020 AdultWork.com has been working with our partner to develop a new cam platform that is independent of Flash (or any browser plug-ins) and that would provide as-good-as-we-had functionality on all modern devices and in all modern browsers.  AW Live was a proof of concept in this area and demonstrates that AdultWork.com had actually started thinking about this as early as 2018.  It has been a race against time and during the last two years the technical team has more than tripled in size to ensure we can meet this deadline and take AdultWork.com forward in 2021 and beyond and remain as market leader.  Many of you will have seen the new AdultWork.com when managing or viewing movies.  The new DirectCam Broadcaster and DirectCam Player also fit into this framework.

The Browser Compatibility table above, shows the challenge AdultWork.com and all other cam platforms face.  From a platform that used 2 broadcasters (JustCamIt & JustCamIt Lite [Flash-based]) and 2 players (Flash-based & Motion JPEG), we now have numerous combinations of device and browser to support.  Some browsers, due to their age, simply cannot be supported.  They do not incorporate the required modern technologies that underpin the new platform, WebRTC.

AdultWork.com appreciates that many members will be struggling to set-up their cam and microphone with the new DirectCam Broadcaster and we hope this article will be helpful.  Others will have clients reporting issues with the new DirectCam Player and some of those issues will revolve around their browser/device configuration and also that some functionality is new, such as 2-Way cam with mobile devices.  Rest assured, we will not stop fixing and enhancing both the broadcaster and the player as Flash bows out once and for all.  AdultWork.com plans to make the DirectCam Platform market-leading and are well staffed and well financed to make that a reality.

Thank you for your support and patience whilst we iron out the issues many of you are graciously reporting.

If you are continuing to have issues:

    1. Check your browser and device combination are supported above.  If in doubt, use Chrome on PCs and Android devices and Safari on all Apple Devices.
    2. Check that your browser has access to use the microphone and webcam.  This is often accessible using icons in the browser address bar, otherwise it will be in browser settings or device settings.
    3. Check your microphone and camera are working in other apps – but be sure to exit those apps before starting the Broadcaster.
    4. Make sure you have selected the devices in the DirectCam Broadcaster Settings Menu before you click Start.  The settings menu is the icon with three dots on it.
    5. Reboot your device.
    6. Contact the Help Centre (24/7) or Live Chat (Mon-Fri 09:00-17:00 UK).
